Overview

After a night of drinking, driving can have deadly consequences. These one-of-a-kind goggles simulate the effects of sleep deprivation at dawn after a night of heavy drinking with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.13. Putting on the goggles allows wearers to experience the visual distortion, lack of coordination, altered depth perception, reduced decision-making skills, and confusion associated with a lack of sleep combined with a high level of alcohol intoxication. Users can perform a simple activity (such as walking a line heel to toe or throwing and catching a ball) without wearing and then whilst wearing the goggles to understand how fatigue and drunkenness can distort their senses and reactions. Each pair of goggles come with a protective drawstring cover/bag and microfibre lens cleaning cloth. A wonderful Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education teaching tool for schools and health education professionals.

Details

Sleep deprivation combined with alcohol consumption can have dangerous or even deadly consequences. Made of sturdy, resistant plastic, these unique goggles help wearers experience the visual distortion, lack of coordination, altered depth perception, reduced decision-making skills, and confusion associated with a night of heavy drinking resulting in a blood alcohol concentration of 0.13 and sleep deprivation. Participants can establish a baseline by practising a field sobriety test first without wearing the goggles and then try the test again whilst wearing the goggles to discover how alcohol intoxication with sleep deprivation impairs their perceptions and judgement. Goggles come with a protective drawstring cover/bag and microfibre lens cleaning cloth. Great for drug education lessons, classrooms, and health fairs. Age 9–Adult.

NOTE: Goggles should be used only under instructor supervision and should never be worn or used as protection or sport goggles.
